ArtHeart Vol. 29: PoetryHELLO EVERYONE Welcome to a new edition of my ArtHeart Feature!. This month's topic is: POETRY! Poetry is a set of works generally written in verse, using metrics such as rhyme and literary devices such as metaphor. Its purpose is to express feelings, emotions and reflections on beauty, love, life, death and other topics. The main types of poetry used are Epic Poetry, Dramatic Poetry and Lyric Poetry. On this occasion, I had the pleasure of interviewing @Barosus (Edward D. Cates), a talented American writer who focuses on writing and sharing beautiful poems inspired by fantasy, folklore and nature to bring joy and support to others. Most of his poems are accompanied by illustrations related to the described themes, which makes his work very creative and eye-catching.He is also a Literature Community Volunteer .Below the interview, I will also feature some amazing poems from the community, including some of the poems of @Barosus! @Barosus, Artist | LiteratureQ1: Hello @Barosus, can you tell us a little about yourself and your beginnings in the world of arts?DA is where I started. I used to write creative thank you notes to folks who would give me llama badges. I had a lot more time on my hands back then. To my surprise people got quite a kick out of them.I don't have a background full of accomplishments and accolades to boast of. I just have this little world on DA that I have truly come to love. I became bedridden back in 2017. The outside world was shut off to me. I had to reach inward and reach out online.DA became a lifeline, a place I could still make an impact. The more I contributed, the more friends got behind me and my confidence grew. DA opened a huge window of opportunity to me. DA literally changed my life.Q2: Art has many meanings, one deeper than another, depending on the person. What is the meaning of art for you? From music, to art, to dance, or literature, whatever the media, the human soul craves expression.. We create because our medium lives inside us in all its darkness, light, beauty, angst, pain, love, hate and joy. It's all inside us just dying to get out.Art is the expression of the human experience captured in its explosion of emotions and riotous colors. We are our art. We create what moves us inside. And we consider a great work to be one that best captures that vision we see inside ourselves.Q3: How and when did you start writing poetry? What inspired you to become a writer? If I gave the full answer, we would be here till teh proverbial cows came home. I really didn't start to contribute publicly until after I had my near death illness. Subsequently I was virtually cut off from the world. That kind of isolation can become unbearable. So, my work is a way of proving to myself and the world that I still matter and that life is not going to take any more from me without a fight. And most of all, I just enjoy doing it. Knowing I can create something people enjoy, makes it worthwhile.Q4: Creating a work of art in any medium, especially Literature, implies a great amount of time, work and effort. How much time do you spend writing? What resources do you use during your writing process?I work in mixed media these days, illustrated poetry. I typically write the poem first. I tend to obsess about "flow." It has lay in such a way that it just seems to run smoothly, like water finding the path of least resistance. After I feel that I have worked out any wrinkles, I will move on to finding stock art and manipulating it to illustrate the poem. That process often takes longer than writing the poetry itself. As far as resources I use sites like Pixabay.com almost every time for stock art. I also often use, thesaurus.com, rhymezone.com, and of course the common stuff like google, Wikipedia, Word 360, Paint 3D, etc. I very often find my inspirations for my own work from reading works from my friends. Inspiration is everywhere.Q5: What is your favorite subject to write Poetry and what makes it so?I have particular interests in fantasy, folklore and nature. I also just love making friends smile and feel supported. The majority of my works are built around those themes.Q6: Choose your favorite Poetry piece from your gallery and tell us about it.Now that is a weighty question! It's like asking which is your favorite child. I actually loved the one I just did posted the other day, "A Great Old Time." I was cracking myself up writing that one.,I have always thought "Chimney Sweep" was a seminal work. A few other promising contenders are "The Lays of Imladris," "Graphite Idiom," and "Dust to Dust Bunnies". Honestly, I had a terrible time narrowing it down to so few.Q7: What writers inside and outside of DeviantArt have inspired you to write Poetry?I am constantly inspired by my DA friends. I have said "my friends are awesome" so often that it has become almost a mantra. There are too many other sources of inspiration to mention.Q8: What do you like the most about the Literature community?I have known such amazing love and acceptance from the literature community on DA. It has really been the first place in my life where I can feel like I can be myself without fear of stigma or rejection. By and large the lit community on DA is a wonderful and caring group of creative spirits.Q9: How do you feel after having supported the community in such a wonderful way as a Community Volunteer for years? What is your favorite part of this experience? It has been a real privilege to serve this community. Oddly enough, I had to be talked into joining the lit volunteer team. I thought I was terribly unqualified since I have no real lit education. But @SingingFlames, who was stepping down as a CV at that time ,really got behind me and encouraged me to try. Other CV team mates also backed her up. So I joined and to my surprise, I was given the position.I truly love being able to give back to the community that has always been so gracious to me. Despite all my flaws and foibles, I have really felt that appreciation. I love making folks smile. And awarding a DD to a deserving work never ceases to bring big smiles.Q10: What advice would you give to those artists who want to become writers or are starting out as such?Don't let yourself be intimidated. I held myself back for so many years because I was sure all the big, scary professional writers were just waiting to crush me like a bug. (lol) I was too scared to just jump in headfirst. But the truth is, you don't need credentials to deserve to write. Just let your creative self fly. Learn constantly. READ, connect with fellow creative souls. Challenge yourself. Try new forms and styles. Take your shot! You might be surprised how many folks will take you seriously.Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed for ArtHeart! Literature FeatureGroups & Projects Artworks,RRunI run. ✿ Show Your Colours ✿
curated by Pascua-Tanya

SHOW YOUR COLORS VOL. 35: POSITIVE THINKING, Greetings my dear friends and fellow artists! Welcome to the Volume 35 of my Show Your Colors feature!! Inspired in a feature of the same name that I made for the Curated Feature - Contest by @projecteducate, this initiative consists of promoting colorful artworks that show positive themes such as Love, Friendship, Diversity, People with Disabilities, Protecting Our Earth, LGBTQ+ and Pride, Christmas and Family, Growing up and Maturing, New Beginnings, Ethical Values, Teamwork, Leadership, Volunteering, Animal Rescue, Love for our parents, Love for children and more. Monthly will be published a volume featuring a maximum of 10-20 artworks selected by me from any category (Traditional, Digital, Fan Art, Anime / Manga, Photography, Photomanipulation, and more) according to the theme selected for the occasion (or a mix of several themes) and some of these editions also will include a morality message related to the same. Popular and little-known artists can get more visibility of their art and learn about the topics discussed. That is to say, it is not only of exhibiting color as a carrier of expression, affectivity, symbolism, and multiple languages that the artist uses to express his inner feelings, emotions, and desires without words, using mainly his sensitivity, boldness, and all the resources that his environment offers to create. Beyond that, the true intention of this project is to raise awareness about those things that are vitally important for having a healthy and happy life without harmful vices or the typical social prejudices. We must learn to live in harmony with others and provide support to people who need it in a very difficult time.Without more to say, enjoy! POSITIVE THINKING ,Positive Thinking is a healthy mindset that allows us to face life’s challenges from a more joyful, optimistic and enriching perspective. However, this does not necessarily mean that we should see the world through pink lenses, avoid our problems and pretend that nothing bad happens, as that would only cause negative effects on our physical, mental and emotional health. It is not about ignoring the reality we live in, but about looking beyond difficult situations, not giving in to negativity and hopelessness, seeking solutions and learning from our mistakes to grow. Our thoughts, whether positive or negative, greatly influence our feelings and behaviors. That is why it is very important that we are more attentive to them to take care of our mind. Having positive thoughts allows us to cope with difficult times, turn the negative into positive, strengthen our abilities and skills, combat stress and frustrations more effectively, project a positive attitude that helps attract good things, grow as people and achieve our goals. ,People who actively practice Positive Thinking are happier, more confident, and determined. They are characterized by seeing the glass half full, having confidence in their abilities and skills, living in the present, coping better with stress and anguish from uncertainty, achieving the personal goals they set, being persevering, accept that sometimes things go wrong, accept that we all make mistakes, see failure as something specific and limited by time, recognize their own mistakes to try to correct them, and enjoy each moment with what they have. They live in a full and healthy way. However, developing Positive Thinking is not easy, it requires a lot of time, patience and effort on our part. Generally, Positive Thinking starts with self-talk, the flow of positive and negative thoughts that invade our minds on a daily basis and are influenced by things that are happening around us. If you constantly train your mind to have a positive approach, making use of Resilience, Mindfulness, Self-care and Gratitude, you will gradually develop Positive Thinking, which will also contribute to your well-being.,BENEFITS OF POSITIVE THINKING,As I mentioned earlier, Positive Thinking has important benefits for our physical, mental, and emotional health. These benefits are:Longer life expectancy: Having positive thoughts helps us live a longer and happier life, since our body develops more defenses to fight infections and other diseases. We are healthier and stronger.Better abilities to face difficulties and moments of stress: As already said, Positive Thinking allows us to combat the stress of daily life, which will help us control the levels of stress our body receives and stop suffering from its negative effects. ,Less likely to suffer from depression: If we constantly practice Resilience, Mindfulness, Self-Care and Gratitude to develop Positive Thinking, this will allow us to be happier and less likely to suffer from depression or anxiety.Better physical health: A positive mindset allows us to take better care of our physical and mental health. So we are less likely to get heart disease, our blood pressure stays at normal levels, we are more resistant to the common cold, and we have a stronger immune system. Better problem-solving skills: We develop better problem-solving skills we face by thinking things through carefully before acting. In addition, you will be able to make better decisions after having learned from your past mistakes and having a more assertive attitude towards life, which in turn will help you to be a better leader in the future.Greater ability to adapt to changes: Changes are necessary to keep moving forward in life and not stagnate. Having positive thinking helps us increase our ability to adapt to changes and new situations that come our way, which in turn motivates us to get out of our comfort zone and try new things.Increased creative thinking: It is said that a positive attitude allows us to be more creative and imaginative, since we are more focused on our ideas.Better state of mind: Positive Thinking helps us to be happier and not be overwhelmed by the negative things that happen around us, while we do what we like. So we will be in a good mood most of the time.,HOW TO DEVELOP POSITIVE THINKING,Developing Positive Thinking can become a great challenge for us, since it is inevitable that we have negative thoughts from time to time and we will not be able to change our way of thinking overnight. It is a process that takes a long time, but it is possible to carry it out by executing the following actions:Resilience: It is the ability we have to overcome adversity, our inner strength to get up after a fall, embrace our struggles, see obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow, be tolerant of change, persevere and never give up while We try to reach our goals. To cultivate resilience we must maintain positive relationships with our loved ones, accept change as part of life, avoid seeing crises as insurmountable obstacles, learn from experiences, set realistic goals, take care of ourselves, have hope, and seek opportunities to discover ourselves.,Mindfulness: It consists of staying focused on the present moment, being aware of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and the environment that surrounds us, without making judgments. Mindfulness practice involves breathing methods, meditations, yoga and other practices to relax the body and mind, an help reduce stress. Being focused on our present allows us to actively get involved in it, not get stuck in the past and keep moving forward.Self-care: Self-care consists of those actions that we carry out in order to take care of our physical, mental and emotional health. Doing things like going to bed early after a long day at work, eating healthy and nutritious food, reading a book we like, drawing, listening to relaxing music, meditating, going for a walk outside, exercising, writing about our feelings in a diary , talking to a friend after a hard day at work, resting when you're stressed, etc. It is about being responsible with ourselves, identifying the things that hurt us and making good decisions about our physical, mental, emotional, mental, spiritual and financial well-being.Gratitude: It is about being grateful to those people who have given us their help and support when we need it most, and with what we have. Another way to practice gratitude is to write down everything you are grateful for in a “Gratitude Journal.” You can read it whenever you want and when you are upset about something, reflect on the things you are grateful for in your life to improve your mood.Review your thoughts: Spend part of your time reviewing your thoughts, to determine if your dominant thoughts are positive or negative. Becoming aware of your thoughts allows you to identify your negative thoughts, question them and transform them into positive thoughts. For example, when faced with a new challenge, instead of rejecting it or saying that you can't do it for fear of failure, see it as an opportunity to learn something new.Get more sleep: Getting enough sleep each night allows us to recharge our batteries, do our homework, and face the day with a good attitude. So it's important to go to bed early and develop a good nighttime routine that prioritizes sleep time.Identify the negative things you need to change at home, at work, at school or at university to improve your life. Eliminate everything that causes you negative thoughts and do more positive things.Surround yourself with positive people: We should surround ourselves with only positive people who support us and who we can trust to give us useful advice and opinions. At the same time, we need to separate ourselves from toxic people who cause us stress, drain our energy, and make us doubt ourselves.MORE INFORMATIONPositive thinking: Stop negative self-talk to reduce stress The Power of Positive Thinking Improve your life with a new outlook: 10 benefits of positive thinking The power of positive thinking is remarkable Resilience: Build skills to endure hardship What is Mindfulness?
